Black Beach Safety

Be safe at the Black beach

Black beach is as dangerous as it is beautiful because of “Sneaker-waves“. In addition to the waves is a danger of falling rocks from the cliff. Please take note of the current conditions at the beach. Ensure your own safety and take all the precautions necessary.

Keep in mind at all times

  • Stay well back from the water’s edge
  • Never turn your back on the sea
  • Children must always be accompanied by an adult
  • Beware of falling rock near the cliff

There are safety signs and warning lights at the entrance to the beach. Please note that the condition can change fast and local safety officers might close the beach with short notice. Respect closures, they are in place for your safety.

There are three different conditions:

Yellow: Moderate risk. Stay alert and cautious.
Orange: Considerable hazard, stay well away from the water.
Red light: Hazardous conditions. Beach is closed but you can stay and enjoy the views at the designated viewing area.

Respect nature, lifes have been lost here.

They’re called sneaker waves because they occur with zero warning. In the midst of gentle waves, a sneaker suddenly surges dozens of feet higher than expected and travel much further than the ordinary waves. These powerful waves can easily sweep an adult out to sea in a matter of seconds. There are no rules, it can strike anytime after a long period of small waves.
